Things to Do

Plenty to do — or nothing at all.

Most guests come for the quiet. But if you want to get out, there's a lot in striking distance. Here's what we point people toward.

On the water

Watts Bar Lake

The cabin sits on a quiet cove with its own dock. Kayaks, a row boat, and a paddle boat are at the cabin — help yourself. The cove is calm even when the main channel is busy, so it's an easy paddle for beginners or kids.

Fishing

Bluegill (yes, really), largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. Most guests fish straight off the dock. Tennessee fishing license required for adults — buy online at gooutdoorstennessee.com.

Boat rentals nearby

Watts Bar Marina (15 min, in Spring City) rents pontoons and fishing boats by the day. Call ahead in summer — they book up.

State parks & hiking

Watts Bar Dam & Recreation Area

About 25 min south — TVA observation deck, swim area, picnic spots. Free.

Fall Creek Falls State Park

About 1 hr west — the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi (256 ft). Several easy overlooks plus a longer hike to the base. Worth a day trip.

Frozen Head State Park

About 1 hr northeast — long trails, big views, fewer crowds than the Smokies.

Great Smoky Mountains

About 2 hr northeast to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. Bigger day, but doable.

Small towns nearby

Spring City (20 min)

Closest grocery store (Food City). Watts Bar Marina, a couple of diners, and a small downtown.

Athens (30 min)

Bigger town with a Walmart, restaurants, and the Mayfield Dairy Visitor Center (yes — free ice cream at the end).

Knoxville (1 hr)

UT campus, Market Square, Sunsphere, a real food scene. Easy day trip if you want city life for an evening.

Chattanooga (1 hr 15 min)

Tennessee Aquarium, Lookout Mountain, Walnut Street walking bridge. Also a great day trip.

Bring fishing gear, hiking shoes, or just a book. We won't judge.
